Dr Kirra Anderson
Dr Kirra graduated from the University of Sydney. She loved the coastal life so much that she moved down from the mid north coast to work with us. Kirra enjoys all aspects of mixed practice but especially surgery, dentistry and emergency medicine, she also has a soft spot for the oldies and the staffies out there.
Outside the clinic Kirra likes to keep a healthy and active lifestyle, so you can’t tempt her with your baked goods. Kirra also has a staffy of her very own, Bert, and a one eyed mini fox terror (sorry, terrier), Lillian, who are avid swimmers and stand up paddleboarders.
Dr Rachel Nightingale
Dr Rachel graduated from the University of Sydney and started work at a mixed practice in Lismore, Northern NSW. At the start of 2018 she decided to trade the north coast for the south coast and moved to Ulladulla to join our team. Rachel is recognisable as the tallest of our vets, and so fittingly she has two tall (and spoilt) rescued greyhounds named JoJo and Flick.
Rachel has an interest in surgery, dermatology and wildlife but enjoys all aspects of the job. When she’s not shopping for her greyhounds, Rachel enjoys hiking, camping, going to the beach and just about anything in the great outdoors (and preferably with her greyhounds by her side).
Dr Jessica McLeod
Jess graduated from the University of Sydney with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She moved from her hometown of Yass to join the team at the start of 2019. Originally from north western NSW, Jess completed a Bachelor of Livestock Science prior to becoming a vet, working as a researcher in livestock health and production for both private and government research bodies.
Jess is a keen horse rider and an accredited judge with the Australian Stock Horse Society, spending her free time competing at shows and campdrafts.
Our Veterinary Nurses
Veronica is the “old codger” of the team (her words!). She’s been a part of the Ulladulla Vet team since she was 17 – many, many moons ago. She started her career working for Dr Rob Wylie who opened the original Milton Vet Surgery.
Veronica left for a few years to have her three beautiful children, and now has three gorgeous grandbabies as well! After more than 40 years she still enjoys her work and loves working with animals and her amazing team.
Next to Veronica, Kath is the second in line for the “old codger” title. Kath started volunteering back at the old Milton Vet Clinic at the ripe age of 21. She then started part time work, and moved on to full-time work soon after. At this stage the practice was two vets and two nurses. Kath loved working with animals, hence why she’s still here! During her time here, Kath has learned so much about life, death, empathy and fun, fun, fun!
After 34 years, she needed a break so moved on to the local camp store for 3 years, but she oh so missed the warm furry bodies. So here she is again, and she says this time it’s until she retires! Outside of animals, she loves her family and anything to do with nature.
Lisa is originally from Coffs Harbour but has been a part of the team for over twenty four years. Lisa has many pets including two teenaged children, a Rottweiler named Soulice, a pug x named Chuggy, two cats named Bell Bell and Rosie, and a ferret named Mitten. You will often see her friendly face at reception. In her spare time Lisa enjoys spending time with her children.
Suzie has been working with us since 2002 and is our practice manager. She has a passion for child and animal welfare and has been a child foster carer for over ten years. All of her pets over the years have been rescue pets!
Suzie’s role is to ensure that our practice runs smoothly while taking into consideration our valuable clients as well as our dedicated staff. In her spare time she likes to go camping with her family and loves working in her garden.
Alex is our Swiss legend! She is grateful to have been given the opportunity to do her practical work with us while she was studying veterinary nursing. Her passion for animal welfare, her excellent nursing skills and her good Swiss work ethic were evident, so she was offered a job with our practice. Alex is not only a vet nurse but she is a qualified pastry chef.
Chris was born and raised in Ulladulla and has always had an interest in animals. He started working with animals when he was 13, firstly volunteering at a wildlife park and then going on to working in pet shops, where his main interest was birds and aquatic animals. He decided to follow his dream of owning a horse at 19 and learnt to ride. In 2013 he landed a job at Ulladulla Vet and has been here ever since, loving every day of it.
Since working here he has acquired his beautiful Labrador Norman, who was meant to be his wingman but gets more attention than he does!
When he’s not gallivanting around Sydney you’ll find Chris in his greenhouse attending to his extensive orchid collection.
Helena has been a qualified veterinary nurse for the past 15 years. She joined the Ulladulla team in 2014 after she and her husband started a family and moved to the area to raise their children. Helena spent many years in an orthopaedic specialists where she gained immense experience and a vast array of nursing skills. This is where her love for surgery, anaesthetics and radiology began.
When not at work, Helena enjoys spending time with her family and two crazy kelpies. She is completing a degree in bachelor of Veterinary Technology.
Ashleigh’s first introduction to the veterinary world started when she did school work experience with us in year 10. She then came back as a student volunteer in year 11 and 12 to commence her studies in veterinary nursing, and has been with us ever since.
You’ll usually find her out the back hands on with either surgery or taking care of our hospital patients. On the weekends she enjoys being out bush and swimming in the river with her two kelpies, Koda and Daisy.
James is our young stallion nursing student/part-timer. He is currently studying and completing his vet nursing work placement at Ulladulla Veterinary Hospital. James likened joining the team to joining a new family, where everyone not only supports but teaches each other.
James grew up on the South Coast and found himself intrigued by the scaly animals so decided to learn more about them. He has multiple animals including Elvis, a 15 year-old blue-tongued lizard, two young pythons, and Humphry the grand Standard Poodle. In his spare time he enjoys diving, rock climbing, calisthenics, surfing and beer.
Having spent five years as a human nurse, Maisy has begun the transition into veterinary nursing, currently studying and working part-time. Maisy has a keen interest in large animals and a soft spot for staffies both great and small!
Maisy is thoroughly enjoying living and working back in the Milton/Ulladulla region spending time on her parents’ hobby farm and walking her staffy Koda along Narawallee beach.
Ash is a qualified veterinary nurse with nine years experience in the field. She is interested in surgical nursing and loves being hands-on with patients. She is currently undertaking further training in dog behaviour and puppy classes.
